The Origins of MOBU
MOBU Herbicidal balms and lotions are the result of one woman’s determination to offer effective supplementary and alternative medicinal to those suffering from illness as well as those wishing to protect and improve their health. MOBU’s creator, naturopath and master herbalist Janell Cole, developed her transdermal balms and lotions in response to the needs she encountered in her patients, many of whom were unable to properly assimilate herbal remedies in oral form. As she began her college education at Brigham Young University in Utah, Janell was already focused on nutrition and traditional medicine. That life path came into much sharper focus when, while she was still an undergraduate, Janell’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. As his cancer spread to the bone, Janell monitored his course of treatment—ultimately unsuccessful—and developed a conviction that much more could have been done for him to strengthen his own system to fight the cancer. It was deeply disturbing to her to reflect on his doctors’ omission of health-supporting diet and other natural practices as they treated him. This heartbreaking experience motivated Janell to study and teach a natural way of healthy living, and to bring to her own practice a mastery of the medicinal properties of herbs and their ideal combinations and uses. Not denying the importance of conventional medicine, Janell changed her own educational goal from western medicine to natural healing methods. After further undergraduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley, she took a doctorate in naturopathy (ND) and pursued additional training in herbology and lymphatic/colonic treatment.
In her practice in southeastern Arizona, Janell often treats patients with cancer or other illness who are referred to her by MD’s familiar with her methods. She maintains a large herbal apothecary (a store of medicinal materials) from which she blends infusions for her patients as well as all of the MOBU products. She insists on the highest quality herbs, sourcing them from providers who observe organic growing methods or ethical wild crafting practices that leave land and plant populations unstressed and healthy.
The Story of MOBU’s Penetrating Dermal Infusions (PDI ™)
You might never know how well herbal remedies work if you haven’t tried dermal infusions. Most people aren’t aware that passage through the stomach and liver can reduce the bio-availability of nutrients and phytonutrients by as much as 90%. Dermal (through the skin) infusions pass rapidly into systemic circulation and bypass the harsh environments of the stomach and liver. The transdermal method has made a strong comeback recently in a multitude of pharmaceutical applications, such as skin patches for weight loss, quitting smoking, and birth control.
The Penetrating Dermal Infusion system (PDI™) is Dr. Janell Cole’s proprietary innovation. It is a double distillation process in which herbal ingredients synergize for up to a week, resulting in super-penetrating, bio-available herbal infusions. “Synergize” refers to the blending of the properties of different herbs in ways that amplify their individual ingredients. PDI employs a double steam, causing a more thorough extraction of healing compounds than in ordinary distillation.
The PDI system promotes rapid and thorough absorption of medicinal herbs into the body, unlike the rough transit through the digestive tract that healing compounds must undergo when taken orally. Oral medications are subject to fluctuating transit times through the body, interactions with digestive fluids, and numerous side effects that don’t arise with transdermal medication.
In addition to the freshness and purity of the ingredients, the quality of MOBU Herbals products is stabilized by the manufacturing scale—small batches, made in our own facility, personally selected, blended, tested and approved by creator Janell Cole. Janell’s uncompromising commitment to the highest standards is the hallmark of MOBU Herbals.
